Troy Valencia is a highly respected Iboga provider, author, and visionary educator whose life work bridges science, psychology, and ancestral medicine. With dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry, a Master’s in Analytical Chemistry, and a second Master’s in East-West Psychology, Troy brings a rare synthesis of empirical knowledge and spiritual insight. He is currently completing his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, specializing in trauma, consciousness, and psycho-spiritual healing.
Troy is the founder of Root & Wisdom, Costa Rica’s top-rated Iboga retreat center, recognized for its integrative and ethical approach to plant medicine. The retreat blends Western therapeutic modalities—such as trauma-informed care, equine therapy, somatic integration, and psychological support—with Eastern philosophy and Indigenous traditions to create a deeply transformative experience.
What sets Troy apart is his unique ancestral connection to the medicine itself. A two-time initiate into the Bwiti tradition of Gabon, Central Africa—where his paternal genetic roots trace back—Troy serves not only as a guide but also as a cultural bridge, honoring the sacred origins of Iboga while bringing it forward in a safe, modern context.
He is also the founder of Sacred Roots Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the impacts of colonization and supporting Indigenous communities that protect plant and animal medicines. Through this work, Troy ensures that reciprocity, cultural preservation, and justice remain at the heart of the healing movement.
Troy is the author of two books, including his latest: Living Beyond the Mind: The End of Personal Suffering. This transformative text explores a range of soteriological systems—including Buddhist, Indigenous, Christian, and Taoist frameworks—and reveals how each points toward the same liberating truth: that suffering is not inevitable, and freedom is available in this lifetime.
With his scientific grounding in chemistry and psychological training in clinical practice, Troy offers a comprehensive and compassionate approach to Iboga that few can match. His retreats are more than ceremonies—they are initiations into a new way of being.
Troy’s mission is to restore balance between modern science and ancient wisdom, while helping individuals remember who they are beneath conditioning, trauma, and belief. Through his work, he embodies a path of liberation, service, and sacred responsibility.
